Launch Services Alliance Announces Paradigm Contract, the Alliance's 4th Cooperative Contract

Riding the momentum of three successful launches from three locations in 17 days, the Launch Services Alliance announced a new contract employing Alliance launch systems to deliver satellites to orbit on time. The three heavy lift vehicles of the Launch Services Alliance have demonstrated in less than one month an unrivaled capability to provide mission assurance to commercial satellite operators and governments around the world.

This new contract will provide back-up service for one of Paradigm Secure Communication’s critical satellites. The Ariane 5 ECA and Zenit-3SL launchers will provide mission assurance for this satellite, scheduled to launch in the second half of 2006. This is the fourth example in less than two years where the Launch Services Alliance provided back-up services for its customers.

The pillars of the Alliance, heavy-lift versions of the Ariane 5, the Zenit-3SL, and the H-IIA, guarantee mission assurance for customers. Together, the Alliance trio can provide back-up services for payloads ranging from 1 to 6 metric tons, making for a seamless transition from one launch service’s manifest to another, should the need arise.

“We want everyone to know the Launch Services Alliance offers a service that promises total mission assurance on three proven launch systems. Schedule assurance provided by the Alliance partners has no geographical limitations, employs the most advanced launch systems, and creates total flexibility for customers, all for the most competitive price,” said Jean-Yves Le Gall, CEO of Arianespace.

“No one comes close to matching or beating this level of flexibility,” declared Jim Maser of Sea Launch. “The option of three different launchers is unparalleled in the industry. We call it mission assurance to the power of three.”

“Now that all three of the Launch Services Alliance’s premier launch systems have been refined and successfully flown, customers receive an added strand to the Alliance safety-net: the most technically advanced commercial rocket systems in the world,” said Shoichiro Asada of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
