Arianespace to launch the IS-32 Satellite, which hosts the SKY Brasil-1 Payload, to support Expansion of DIRECTV Latin America Service

Arianespace announced today a launch contract for the IS-32 satellite which hosts the SKY Brasil-1 payload. The launch will take place in the third quarter of 2016 from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana on an Ariane 5.

DIRECTV, one of the world’s leading providers of digital television entertainment services, will utilize the SKY Brasil-1 payload capacity to expand the delivery of high definition, 3-D television and cinema programming throughout Brazil.

The IS-32 satellite, built by Astrium and based on the EuroStar 3000 platform, will have a mass of approximately 6.3 metric tons at launch. The satellite will be equipped with 81 transponders operating in the Ku and Ka-bands and will be placed at the 43 degrees West orbital location. “We are honored that DIRECTV has entrusted a tenth satellite launch to Arianespace.

The new contract reinforces our partnership with DIRECTV and validates the strength of our launch service offer,” said Stéphane Israël, Chairman & CEO of Arianespace. “IS-32 will be one of two satellites that will support our SKY Brasil business providing us with the capacity to deliver superior products and services to our growing customer base in Brazil,” said Bruce Churchill, president of DIRECTV Latin America. “We’re looking forward to another successful Arianespace launch.”
