An agreement on gender equality was signed by Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall with the company’s employee representatives during a Paris Air Show ceremony today that was attended by Valérie Pécresse, the French Minister of Higher Education and Research.

Arianespace’s firm commitment to its labor organizations is reflected in the development of this agreement, which meets objectives for workplace diversity and skills development and recognition. The agreement’s main objectives are: support for scholastic and professional orientation in raising women’s awareness of potential space-related science and technology careers, training, remuneration, balancing professional and personal needs, and encouraging changes in workplace attitudes.

Following the signature, Jean-Yves Le Gall said: “Through this agreement, Arianespace pledges to develop an ambitious, proactive policy to support gender equality in the workplace. Nurturing a diverse workforce in a company like ours clearly provides a source of complementary skills and expertise, balance and efficiency. We believe that it offers a major advantage in meeting upcoming challenges. Arianespace is very proud therefore of being able to play an active role in promoting professional equality between men and women.”

French minister Valérie Pécresse added: “This is an exemplary initiative by Arianespace, because all too often women do not choose scientific careers, especially those in the space sector. Given Arianespace’s crucial role in European space policy, I am sure that this commitment will help change the outlook and choices of both women and recruiters concerning these professions, since they embody both innovation and the future. I am delighted to see Arianespace lifting off for new horizons, including gender equality in the workplace, diversity and the recognition of expertise applied to space programs.”
