The Annual General Meeting of Arianespace shareholders was held today in Evry, near Paris, and approved the company's financial statements for 2005.

Arianespace posted sales of 1.068 billion euros in 2005, over 60% higher than the previous year. It finished in the black for the third year in a row, showing a profit of 6.3 million euros despite the disadvantageous euro-US dollar exchange rate.

These positive results reflect both the growth in Arianespace’s business, and its continued technical, operational and commercial achievements.

The pace of operations was sustained last year, with Arianespace carrying out five Ariane 5 launches from the Guiana Space Center, and Starsem carrying out three Soyuz launches from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, to orbit a total of 11 satellites. The two Ariane 5 ECA missions were successful, firmly establishing this heavy launcher as the benchmark in the international commercial launch market.

Arianespace has reestablished its leadership in the satellite launch market, consolidating the industry’s largest order book with some 40 satellites to be launched. This performance was driven by Arianespace’s innovative strategy, as a value-added launch services company offering a family of launchers and the flexibility of the Launch Services Alliance.

Arianespace’s market leadership proves that its service and launch solutions meet customer expectations. The company signed nine new launch contracts in 2005, and the excellent outlook for 2006 will ensure sustained workload for Arianespace and its industrial partners in the coming years. This market success, coupled with a sustained launch rate as demonstrated in 2005, reaffirms Arianespace’s international leadership and bolsters its role as a major player in the European space industry.
