According to the French law on space operations, passed on June 3, 2008, since December 10, 2010 any launch or orbital control operation is subject to an authorization issued by French authorities.

On December 24, Arianespace was granted a license by Valérie Pecresse, the French Minister of Research and Higher Education, guaranteeing its professional, financial and moral integrity as a French-registered launch service operator. The award of this license is clear recognition of the company’s proven dependability in its business of marketing and operating launch services at the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana, with the European family of launchers comprising Ariane 5, Vega and Soyuz.

“The license awarded by the French government clearly illustrates Arianespace’s excellence and exemplary performance,” said company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jean-Yves Le Gall. “It validates the high quality, professionalism and focus on safety of everybody working for our company, the relevance of the programs implemented within the scope of the European Space Agency, and the high level of responsibility characteristic of all players in our sector, in particular our industrial partners and the French space agency CNES.”

The first launch to take place under this authorization since the full-fledged application of the French law concerning space operations is the Ariane 5 mission scheduled for December 28, 2010, which will orbit the Hispasat 1E and Koreasat 6 satellites.
