Arianespace at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum

Arianespace was a very active participant in the 2010 Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum from June 17 to 19, attended by the Presidents of both France and Russia.

Invited by Russian Minister of Economic Development, Elvira Nabiullina, Arianespace participated in the Round Table discussion entitled: “Space Travel: an everyday business?” Arianespace, the world leader in launch services shared its analysis of the development outlook for the space sector, based on its vast experience.

A meeting bringing together French and Russian business leaders, as well as French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, reviewed the challenges of operating the Ariane 5, Soyuz and Vega launches, while also discussing modernization and collaboration on innovation as the basis for a strategic partnership between France and Russia. Participants reviewed the contributions of space collaboration between France, Europe and Russia, as shown by the upcoming operation of the Soyuz launcher at the Guiana Space Center, Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

The end of the meeting saw a concrete illustration of the commercial, industrial and economic potential of this project. Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman and CEO of Arianespace, and Anatoly Perminov, head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, signed an agreement that will allow Arianespace to order up to ten Soyuz launches to be performed from the Guiana Space Center, also witnessed by the two Presidents.
