Arianespace at CommunicAsia 2014: World leader in the satellite launch market, with a predominant position in the Asia-Pacific

At CommunicAsia 2014 from June 17 to 20, Arianespace confirms its predominant position among satellite manufacturers and operators in the Asia-Pacific region with more than 60% market share.

This year marks the 24th edition of CommunicAsia, an international trade show and exhibition for communications and information technologies. Held each year in Singapore, it draws industry professionals from over one hundred countries.

Arianespace will be showcasing its achievements and expertise at booth No. 1T3-07 in Hall C.

Arianespace: Number 1 in the Asia-Pacific

Since being founded, Arianespace has won 77 contracts in the Asia-Pacific region. It has already launched 68 satellites in 27 years for operators from this booming region, an average of 2.5 satellites per year. Arianespace currently has nine more satellites to be launched for customers in Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.

With 64% of the commercial satellite launch market in the region, Arianespace clearly sets the standard for launch services in the Asia-Pacific, working for both manufacturers and operators. The company’s predominant position results from a strong local sales and marketing presence, based on offices set up in Tokyo in 1986 and Singapore in 1996. The Asia-Pacific region is logging sustained growth in this market, and now accounts for 30% of Arianespace’s sales for commercial launches of geostationary telecommunications satellites.

The benchmark in space transport

Since being founded, Arianespace has signed over 410 launch contracts with 90 different customers. It has carried out 217 Ariane launches, including 59 successful launches in a row of Ariane 5. Over the last few years Arianespace has also extended its launch capabilities from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana, by adding the Soyuz and Vega launchers to its family. All of these missions have been successful as well, including seven Soyuz launches from the Guiana Space Center, in addition to 26 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, via its subsidiary Starsem, and three Vega launches.

A record order book

Drawing on a family of launchers offering unrivaled reliability and availability, Arianespace signs more than half of the commercial launch contracts on the open global market each year. Arianespace now has an order book worth more than 4 billion euros, from 27 customers. This is equal to more than three of operations, and includes 20 Ariane 5 launches, with 34 satellites to be lofted into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) and three dedicated missions, eight Soyuz launches and nine Vega launches.
